The crisis of loss and moral injury-Lasting effects of COVID-19 on teenagers and healthcare workers

Child & Youth Services - Journal Article

Coronavirus (COVID-19) may have lasting effects that reshape human behavior and interaction both locally and collectively. While there are immediate changes to how we relate to each other from a societal perspective (social distancing) and the role of leaders and government in our lives, there are also changes that will have long lasting effects on our future (preparedness for the next global event) that will not be fully understood for some time.As a psychologist, I have noticed a shift in human behavior, including an increase in individual and institutional levels of fear and anxiety along with misperceptions of reality and reasoning. In this article, I will be addressing fear and anxiety through the lens of teenagers who are directly affected by COVID-19 (dealing with loss) and how healthcare workers respond to the events of COVID-19, more specifically how they are affected by Moral Injury, and possibility of lingering effects on family life.
